The oceans cover about 70% of the earth’s surface and despite these vast expanses, these oceans are in danger. And we are threatened by this danger mostly created by ourselves. In fact, about 80% of marine pollution comes from land-based activities. We depend on the ocean for our economy, our social well-being and also for the quality of our life but human activities have affected this environment causing various problems.The village of Las Terrenas is not spared by these global threats. Located on the north coast of Dominican Republic, this coastal town has an economy closely linked to the resources it exploits. The survival and maintenance of terrestrial and marine biodiversity depends on the relationship between humans and nature. In recent years, the municipality has suffered a considerable loss of its marine resources due to climate change local pollution, eutrophication, illegal fishing, and disappearance of coral reefs. In the Dominican Republic, the corals represents a big impact. Coral reefs have recently been associated with the tourism industry. While considering the coast and marine resources for granted, and everlasting, but now in our days, they are really critical.Being damaged by the fisherman. At the end, not enough coral to have habitat for fishes. That said, few corals will eventually not be able to survive. Having a vicious circle that doesn’t end.
